Local impact of myofascial release/manual therapy for neck, voice, and swallowing disorders
Local impact of myofascial release/manual therapy for neck, voice, and swallowing disorders
For many years I've wondered how my touch is noted inside the body, at least from a deformation standpoint. While taking one of Jacob Lieberman, DO's manual circumlaryngeal treatment seminars this past March in the UK, I witnessed a video he had made showing the video endoscopy view of his interventions and immediately wanted to do the same. Thanks to the SLPs at Flagstaff (AZ) Medical Center, where I recently taught my Foundations in Myofascial Release Seminar for Neck, Voice, and Swallowing Disorders I was able to see my work in action. The video sequence was unscripted with no intention except to see if a few of the many maneuvers I teach and use would show to impact the region of the vocal folds, arytenoids, and surrounding structure so important for voice and swallowing. The split-screen allows you to see what I was doing with my hands while viewing close-up images of the scope images. I am fully aware that seeing the impact proves no effect, per se, but I feel is a very exciting start to what I hope to be future imaging opportunities for me in the future, for both voice and dysphagia-related interventions.
