Foundations of Manual Therapy Whole Body Online Course

Targeting the patient populations of the massage therapist, occupational therapist, and physical therapist, Walt’s online seminars present manual therapy in a manner keeping with current understandings of the complexities of how we, as humans, work. Using neurological, biomechanical, and behavioral narratives to explain the effects of this work, Walt has updated the science behind older intervention models in an enjoyable and challenging comprehensive online course. Those familiar with MFR and other modality-based courses will find that Walt’s approach allows a continuation of that work, but with the addition of explanations that are more universally accepted.

The Foundation in Manual Therapy Whole Body Online Course is a comprehensive, foundational course designed for massage therapists, physical therapists, occupational therapists, and others with similar interests, providing a comprehensive perspective on implementing manual therapy. This course teaches a slow, sustained style of manual therapy from a perspective that emphasizes shared decision-making. Head-to-toe issues and perspectives are covered, with a course manual that guides the learner through understanding an approach that differs from most models.

How is this class different? To let you know, my work relies less on your expertise and more on the values and perspectives of the patient (shared decision-making). I use and teach a style of work visibly recognizable as MFR, which will provide comfort for some. However, instead of teaching you to be a fascia expert, I work to create in you a curious partner in therapeutic relationships. The core concepts of my approach are transferable to any model of massage or manual therapy. On the one hand, this is complex work, as it will stretch you out of your comfort zone. Throughout our education and continuing education training, most of us were not exposed to placing the patient’s interests, values, and perspectives on an equal plane with our own beliefs. On the other hand, engaging in shared decision-making is straightforward: we are experts and well-trained, but we often lack insight into our patients’ lived experiences (until we involve them in the process). The class includes a comprehensive downloadable handbook on this approach, which will help you understand why I feel a different perspective on manual care is warranted.

I believe it is possible to perform this form of manual therapy from an evidence-based perspective. To do this, I’ve had to deconstruct many parallel explanations for the effects we observe and examine the possibilities that underpin these changes. As such, I end up poking at clinicians’ favorite stories, but I do so respectfully. Pulling the band-aid from sacred beliefs is healthy and allows us to see all the possibilities for our shared work.

This comprehensive course comprises 69 video modules.

Course Description

A comprehensive foundational course for implementing manual therapy from the context of the massage therapist, physical therapist, occupational therapist, and others with similar interests. This course teaches a slow, sustained style of manual therapy from a shared decision-making perspective. Head-to-toe issues and perspectives are covered with a course manual that guides the learner through understanding an approach that differs from most models.

How is this class different? This class teaches us to set aside our egos and listen to our patients. The work I do with patients and teach to professionals relies less on my expertise and more on the values and perspectives of the patient (shared decision-making). I use and teach a work style visibly recognizable as MFR, which will provide comfort for some. However, instead of teaching you to be a fascia expert, I work to create in you a curious partner in therapeutic relationships. The core concepts of my approach are transferable to any massage or manual therapy model. On the one hand, this is complex work, as it will stretch you out of your comfort zone. On the other hand, engaging in shared decision-making is simple: we are experts and well-trained, but we know nothing about our patients’/clients’ lived experiences (until we include them in the process). The class includes a comprehensive downloadable guide to this approach, helping you understand why I believe a different approach to manual care is warranted.
